The most common are mild, like breast tenderness, light spotting or headache, and they often settle as your body adjusts. Your provider goes over everything with you, and your care team is a message away.

Important safety information

Hormone therapy is generally not used if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding, a history of breast cancer or other estrogen-sensitive cancer, blood clots, stroke, heart attack, liver disease, or if you are pregnant.

Serious side effects may include:

  • Estrogen therapy has been linked to increased risk of endometrial cancer, stroke, blood clots, heart attack, breast cancer and dementia. Using a progestogen with estrogen lowers the risk of endometrial cancer.
  • Report any unusual vaginal bleeding to your provider right away.
  • Hormone cream can transfer to others through skin contact. Keep children and pets away from the application area until it dries.

Common side effects include breast tenderness, spotting or vaginal bleeding, headache, bloating, mood changes, skin irritation where the cream is applied.

Compounded medications are prepared by state-licensed pharmacies and are not FDA-approved. Your provider reviews your health history and goes over risks and benefits with you.
